A court in the state of Rio Grande has blocked Corinthians from being named league champions for 2005.

Judge Munira Hanna has threatened to fine the Brazilian Football Federation (CBF) $1.8m if they do not await the decision of an appeal lodged by lawyer Leandro Konrad, a supporter of Internacional, who also lay claim to the title.

The confusion follows the decision by the sports tribunal (STJD) in October to cancel the results of eleven matches refereed by Edilson Pereira de Carvalho after he was banned for match-fixing.

The games were replayed and Corinthians picked up an extra four points.

But a judge ruled that the STJD’s decision could not be considered final and that the championship was sub judice.
