Bayern Munich midfielder Sebastian Deisler has agred an extension to his current deal which will keep him at the club until 2009.

His agent said that the 25-year-old player “took this decision because Bayern not only made him a fair offer but also proposed a sporting challenge.”

Deisler joined Bayern in 2002 from Hertha Berlin for €9.5m. However, after the pressure of undergoing successive knee operations took its toll and he suffered from depression.

The German international recovered and although he suffered a recurrence of his depression just over a year ago, he now appears to have made a full recovery.
