Former Chievo coach Luigi Del Neri has confirmed that he expects to become the new coach of Sicilian side Palermo.

Palermo finished sixth in Serie A and qualified for the UEFA Cup but their coach Francesco Guidolin surprisingly decided to resign.

“There are still a few matters to be resolved but Del Neri should be our coach. We expect it to be official tomorrow or in the coming days,” said a Palermo spokesman.

Del Neri took Chievo from Serie B to the upper reaches of the top flight before joining Porto in the summer. He quit the then European champions shortly after taking over, before joining Roma where he stayed until March.
