Raymond Domenech, former coach of the France national team, who was fired after the country’s dismal showing at the World Cup, is looking for €2 million in damages.

A Lawyer for Raymond Domenech told L’Equipe that his client was made “a scapegoat” for his team’s poor performance in South Africa, where it failed to advance past the group stage.

Domenech was reportedly sacked from his role on the French Football Federation (FFF) technical advisory board in September.

The FFF reportedly sacked Domenech for three “grave errors”, including Nicola Anelka’s expulsion from France’s squad, the subsequent training boycott and his refusal to shake the hand of South Africa coach Carlos Alberto Parreira after the final group game.
