France coach Raymond Domenech has criticised the Lithuania fans who unveiled a racist flag during the Euro 2008 qualifying match last weekend.

Lithuanian supporters displayed a flag representing the African continent with the colours of the French flag, emblazoned with the message “Welcome to Europe”.

Uefa has announced it will launch an investigation into the incident, and Domenech says he was disgusted by the behaviour of the fans.

“Lithuania welcomed us very well. The national anthem wasn’t booed,” he told AFP.

“The problem was the stupid fans who tarnish our sport – the few morons who have shown that flag.

“I hope they will be punished, but the trouble is that the real perpetrators of the crime have to be dealt with using footage from the match instead of punishing the Lithuania football federation.

“We can’t go on like that.”
