Borussia Dortmund coach Bert van Marwijk has been handed a vote of confidence following his team’s 2-0 defeat to Hamburg at the weekend.

Hundreds of angry supporters stormed the gates at the Westfalen Sadium after the defeat which left Dortmund languishing in 15th place in the Bundesliga.

“We have faith in the coach,” said Dortmund’s new president Reinhard Rauball.

“He is no magician and neither am I. We have to use all our means to come through this but the transfer market is not an option.”

Van Marwijk acknowledges that the club’s poor run of form has weakened his position.

“We know the relegation battle has now started,” said Marwijk. “If I feel it is not going in the right direction I will decide my future.”
