Christophe Dugarry has announced his retirement at the age of 32.

France’s World Cup 1998 and Euro 2000 winner began his career at Bordeaux in 1988 and played at Milan and Barcelona before joining Birmingham in 2003.

His final club was Qatar Sports Club and he recently turned down the chance to continue his playing career with Portugal’s Benfica.

Dugarry told L’Equipe newspaper: “Today it is necessary to play smoothly and, transparently, I am not made for that.”

“I did not see myself taking part in another championship.

“I belong to the old generation.”
