Duisburg coach Rudi Bommer has told his Brazilian striker Ailton that his attitude over the coming weeks would determine whether he had a future at the club.
“I gave him his chance in the championship, I was patient, but now that’s finished: he must do more at training and on the pitch,” Bommer said.
Ailton, 34, hasn’t scored a goal in four Bundesliga matches since his arrival at Duisburg in August.
He is also at loggerheads with his club over his wish to head to Mexico to be with his wife, who recently gave birth to twins.
“I did everything in the off-season to get him here and now I’m waiting to see if we haven’t made a mistake,” said Bommer.
Ailton was leading goal scorer in the Bundesliga in 2003-04 while at Werder Bremen.
