Karlsruhe captain Mario Eggimann has agreed to join Bundesliga rivals Hannover next summer.

The Swiss international defender has agreed a five-year deal at the AWD Arena and will cost around €1m.

The loss of Eggimann is a blow to Karlsruhe who have already seen Thomas Hajnal agree to join Borussia Dortmund, while Andreas Gorlitz, Massimillian Porcello and Christian Eichler have all been linked with a number of German clubs.

“It was important for us to convince him of our concept and we are pleased we have managed to do that,” said Hannover sporting director Christan Hochstatter.

“We want to build something long-term here in Hannover with Mario.”
