England fans may be banned from travelling to Turkey following the trouble which occurred before and during last night’s Euro 2004 qualifier in Sunderland.

Ninety supporters were arrested before the match as police charged at England fans who were trying to attack Turkish supportersfrom entering the Stadium of Light. There were further unruly scenes during the game, with supporters invading the pitch for both of England’s goals.

The Football Association are expected to face disciplinary action from UEFA.

FA chief executive David Davies confirmed that they would consider banning England fans from travelling to Turkey for the match in in October.

Davies said: ‘There is a view that it is unhelpful to stop England fans from travelling because England fans will always go without tickets. We will not make any decision until June.’

Both England goals led to pitch invasions by around 50 supporters and the second led to a scuffle involving Turkey’s Alpay Ozalan. The Aston Villa defender kicked out at one of the pitch invaders.
