Sven-Goran Eriksson would be interested in talking to Newcastle about their managerial vacancy, according to his agent.

The former England coach has not worked since last summer’s World Cup finals, but he would be tempted by the prospect of working at Newcastle.

His agent, Athole Still said: “There has been no contact whatsoever but if Newcastle were interested, I am sure Sven would be interested in talking to Newcastle.”

Glenn Roeder resigned as Magpies manager on Sunday and former Bolton manager Sam Allardyce is favourite to take over.

He has been linked to a number of Premiership clubs as well as French club Marseille.

Eriksson polled well in a phone vote for fans over possible candidates that was carried out by a Newcastle radio station, although the club’s chairman Freddie Shepherd has given no indication that the Swede is on his shortlist.
