Sven Goran Eriksson has named his England squad for next week’s game friendly against Argentina but there was no place for Jonathan Woodgate after the defender picked up another injury playing for Real Madrid on Sunday.

Woodgate had been tipped for a call-up, having returned to full fitness after spending over a year on the sidelines with a thigh injury. However, Woodgate limped off midway through the first half of Real’s clash with Real Zaragoza.

Wayne Bridge has been recalled and there are also a returns for Paul Konchesky, David James and Michael Carrick.

“Wayne Bridge played in the Carling Cup for Chelsea so I want to see him,” said Eriksson.

“It is important for him to come back into international football because he is the second best left-back in the country behind Ashley Cole.”

Squad:
Robinson (Tottenham), Green (Norwich), James (Man City), Neville (Everton), Young (Charlton), Bridge (Chelsea), Konchesky (West Ham), Ferdinand (Man Utd), Terry (Chelsea), Campbell (Arsenal), King (Tottenham), Beckham (Real Madrid), Gerrard (Liverpool), Lampard (Chelsea), J Cole (Chelsea), Wright-Phillips (Chelsea), Jenas (Tottenham), Smith (Man Utd), Carrick (Tottenham), Owen (Newcastle), Rooney (Man Utd), Defoe (Tottenham), Crouch (Liverpool).
