Espanyol have told Tottenham that they have no intention of selling their highly-rated defender Dani Jarque.

Reports over the weekend claimed new Spurs manager Juande Ramos was lining up a move for the 24-year-old central defender.

Espanyol are aware of interest in Jarque, but insist he is not for sale.

“We have not received any offers for Jarque, but it is certain that we know of interest from some clubs in the player,” an Espanyol spokesman told skysports.com.

“Now he is an important member of our team and we are not interested in his sale.”

Jarque said he was ignoring the speculation and concentrating on life at Espanyol.

“I only know of this news through the press because I have not spoken to anyone about the subject,” said Jarque.

“My club has not said anything to me and now my objective is to triumph at Espanyol.

“It is normal that I desire to progress like any player, but I prefer to speak about this question if propositions really arrive.”
