Barcelona striker Samuel Eto’o has confirmed he turned down the chance of joining Liverpool last summer.

The Cameroon international has been instrumnental in Barcelona’s push for the title in Spain following his move from Mallorca.

His move to Camp Nou last summer was initially blocked by former employers Real Madrid who were unhappy at the prospect of him joining their arch rivals.

However, Eto’o has now revealed that Liverpool made an attempt to hijack the deal.

“Although they (Liverpool) offered me €6 million a season, there are more important things than money,” he told El Mundo Deportivo.

“Happiness does not have a price. You can’t buy someone’s happiness.

“I know because I left a place in which I did not laugh much, where everything seemed grey (he added in reference to Real Madrid).

“Everyone knows about the weather they have in England!”
