Barcelona striker Samuel Eto’o is confident of returning to action ahead of schedule from his knee injury.

The Cameroon striker was expected to be out of action for five months having undergone surgery at the start of October to remedy a knee ligament injury.

Eto’o believes he is only three weeks away from kicking a ball again, although he says he will not be rushing his comeback.

“We have started to do work (with the knee) and everything is going well,” he told Catalan radio station RAC-1. “The doctor has told me that the knee is responding very well.

“I have to take it cautiously, but I am making progress.

“I must keep working calmly and listen to what my knee is saying at all times. At the moment it is telling me that things are progressing.

“I hope that I will be able to return before the five months.

“I don’t feel much pain anymore, but the problem is that I have lost muscle mass and I have to recover that.”
