Barcelona striker Samuel Eto’o was subjected to racist abuse from Racing Santander fans during their Primera Liga match on Sunday.

“In the 34th minute of the game a group of fans chanted making the sound of a monkey when Eto’o touched the ball,” referee Antonio Rubinos Perez said in his match report.

“I asked the club to make an announcement over the PA system calling for the fans to show respect towards the participants. This message went out soon after.”

Eto’o, who scored Barcelona’s second goal ran to the touchline and kicking the corner flag after netting Barcelona’s equaliser.

In February Eto’o tried to leave the pitch after being racially abused by Real Zaragoza fans.

The Cameroon international was eprsuaded to complete the game, but Zaragoza were fined €9,000 by the Spanish Football Federation.
