The draw for the qualifying competition for Euro 2008 has taken place in Montreux.

France were paired with Italy, who they beat in the final of Euro 2000, in what looks to be the toughest of the qualifying groups.

2004 European champions Greece have been handed a stern test against Turkey as they begin the defence of the trophy they won in Lisbon in July 2004. Greece will also face Norway, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Hungary, Moldova and Malta in Group C if they are to qualify for the 2008 finals.

The competition will start on September 2; the top two teams in each group will qualify for the finals; Switzerland and Austria qualify automatically as co-hosts of finals
