Inter winger Andy van der Meyde will have a medical examination at Goodison Park today with a view to a move to Everton even though they have not yet agreed a deal with the Italian side.

Everton manager David Moyes is also close to completing a loan deal with Roma defender Matteo Ferrari after learning that Alessandro Pistone will miss most of the season because of knee ligament damage.

“I aim to bring in a couple of new players,” said Moyes.

“Hopefully Ferrari will complete his move today.

“I don’t know if we can get him registered in time for Saturday. Van der Meyde is coming in today for a medical and we will see how it goes. Hopefully the clubs can agree a fee.”

Pistone picked up the injury in Everton’s 1-0 victory at Bolton and the problem is far worse than initially diagnosed.

“Pistone has a cruciate injury and looks as though he will be out for most of the season,” continued Moyes. “It is a massive blow and I will probably need to bring in a left-back.”
