Everton boss David Moyes insists Phil Neville is staying at the club despite reported interest from Tottenham.

Tottenham have been linked with a move for the 33-year-old defender during this month’s transfer window as Harry Redknapp looks to strengthen his squad.

Moyes has confirmed Tottenham made an enquiry for Neville, but that the North London club were informed the the 33-year-old was not for sale.

“I spoke with Harry Redknapp briefly before the transfer window opened,” Moyes told the club’s official website.

“Daniel Levy and Bill (Kenwright) had an even briefer conversation at our recent game against Spurs and mutually agreed that this would go no further.

“At no time was any offer made – nor would one have been welcomed. Phil Neville is our captain and is an important part of the Everton set-up.”
