The FA is understood to have complied an intial shortlist of four men in its search for the next England manager.

The former Chelsea manager Jose Mouringo, former Real Madrid coach Fabio Capello and Jurgen Klinsmann, the man who led Germany to the semi-finals of the 2006 World Cup, are reported to be among those on the list.

However, the process of consulting high profile figures within the Englash game is ongoing, with the FA in no rush to make an appointment.

The FA’s chief executive, Brian Barwick, and director of football development, Sir Trevor Brooking, are leading the search and not holding themselves to a set schedule over the appointment but sources claim they have already narrowed their search to a handful of suitable candidates.
