Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has expressed his delight at the signing of Dimitar Berbatov.

The 27-year-old agreed a four-year deal at Old Trafford on Monday night, just minutes before the transfer window closed – ending a summer long pursuit by United.

United and Tottenham agreed a deal worth just over £30million with Spurs also getting United striker Fraizer Campbell on loan for the rest of the season.

“This is a key signing,” explained Ferguson.

“Dimitar is one of the best and most exciting strikers in world football.

“His style and ability will give the team a different dimension and I’m sure he will be a popular player with the fans.”

Berbatov was equally pleased to have finally secured his move to United.

“Joining Manchester United is a dream come true for me,” he said.

“I look forward to playing my part in helping this club win more honours in the years to come.”
