Sir Alex Ferguson has denied that Manchester United midfielder David Beckham is moving to Real Madrid.

Persistent rumours concerning the England captain have been circulating, with the latest reports suggesting a £38 million deal had been agreed with the reining European Champions.

But Old Trafford coach Ferguson insists Beckham is staying put.

“It is totally inaccurate to suggest a deal has been done with Real Madrid for David Beckham,” said Ferguson.

“I know there has been speculation, but to my knowledge there has been no contact whatsoever with Real over Beckham.”

Confronted with the ongoing speculation, the club also issued a denial.

“Wecan categorically deny that any deal is in place to sell David Beckham to Real Madrid.

“David will be a Manchester United player next season.”

Meanwhile, Real Madrid have described the reports as unfounded.

“This kind of story shows a lack of respect for clubs like Manchester United, who are friends of ours,” Real Madrid president Florentino Perez told The Mirror newspaper.

“There have been a series of unfounded rumours, but it has not entered the head of anyone at Real Madrid that Beckham could play for Real Madrid next season.

“This also shows a lack of respect for the players we have at Real Madrid.

“I made this clear a week ago, or more, and nothing has changed.”
