Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson refused to confirm whether fit again striker Ruud Van Nistelrooy will be in his startinng line-up for tonght’s Champions League tie against Milan.

The prolific Dutch forward who has scored 36 goals in 37 Champions League matches, has been out of action for two months after suffering an achilles injury.

“Ruud’s fit. He has been great in training and he’s ready to come back,” confirmed Ferguson.

“It’s a big decision. He’s the best striker in Europe and his record in this competition is incredible.

“I’ve no fears on that count but after three months out there has to be a question about whether the pace of the game will be too much for him early on and whether it would be better to have him as a substitute.”
