Sir Alex Ferguson has ordered Rio Ferdinand to repay Manchester United’s loyalty and sign a new contract.

Ferguson is frustrated by a delay in talks, insisting he now wants Ferdinand to make decision on a reported £100,000-a-week deal.

“We are not going to be messed about,” said Ferguson. “We have shown great faith in signing these players and we need to see it returned.”

The warning comes a week after after he told Ferdinand to sign a new contract.

Ferguson was also angry about Ferdinand’s meeting with Chelsea chief executive Peter Kenyon in a London restaurant, even though both parties claim it was an innocent encounter.

“Rio’s agent is apparently out of the country,” the United boss added. “There is nothing much we can do about that but when he gets back we want a decision.

“It is important to the Manchester United fans that they get one.”
