Paris Saint-Germain manager Luis Fernandez has confirmed he will leavethe club at the end of the season.

“It’s best to recognise when you’ve failed. It’s best for the club and myself that I leave,” he told Le Parisien newspaper.

PSG lie eighth in the league and look unlikely to qualify for the Champions League, let alone achieve Fernandez’s pre-season target of winning the the title.

Fernandez blamed the club’s owners, Canal Plus, for undermining his position by favouring Brazilian striker Ronaldinho in his ongoing disputes with the coach.

“They always said they would put him before me,” Fernandez said.

Fernandez, a former player with the club, took over at PSG two years ago for his second spell in charge.
