FIFA’s investigation into the brawl between Turkey and Switzerland players after their World Cup play-off in Istanbul, is expected to continue into next year.

FIFA said it questioned 22 people in the first round of hearings into “proceedings against the Turkish football association” over its conduct before and after the match in Istanbul on Nov. 16.

Turkey won the game 4-2, but Switzerland progressed to next year’s World Cup finals on away goals. After the final whistle, there was a scuffle involving players and staff on the way to the dressing room.

“The results of the investigation will determine whether additional individual proceedings are brought against those concerned or whether further hearings and more evidence are necessary,” FIFA said in a statement.

FIFA president Sepp Blatter has said that banning Turkey from the 2010 World Cup was a possibility.
