Fiorentina’s official website has confirmed that the newly promoted Serie A club are interested in signing French international Sylvain Wiltord.

Reports say general manager Giovanni Galli has flown to England to try and persuade a number of Premiership players to move to Florence.

Wiltord appears to be Galli’s main target since his contract with Arsenal expired, but the striker’s wage demands may prove too high for the Viola. In that case Galli may turn his attention to Middlesbrough striker Massimo Maccarone.

Other sources say Fiorentina may already have concluded an agreement with Juventus midfielder Enzo Maresca. The 24 year-old is thought to be surplus to requirements at the Stadio Delle Alpi, having failed to establish himself in the team since his move from West Brom five years ago.

Aston Villa have also been linked with the player, while Juve say they would be prepared to use him as part of a deal to bring Udinese’s Marek Jankulovski to the club.
