Montpellier’s Stade de la Mosson has been struck by a freak flash flood, which has left the  Ligue 1 club with a huge clear-up operation.

The southern French city was hit by a ferocious storm which produced half of its annual rainfall in just a matter of hours, with the 12 inches of rain forcing 4,000 locals to evacuate their homes.

However, nowhere appeared to have been hit harder than the Stade de la Mosson. Montpellier’s next game is at home against Lyon on October 19 but that fixture could be in doubt due to the state of their pitch.
