Atletico Madrid striker Diego Forlan remains upbeat despite his current barren spell in front on goal.

The Uruguay international has been a prolific striker in recent years, having twice won the European Golden Boot during six seasons in Spain with Villarreal and Athletic.

Forlan opened the campaign with three goals in his first two Liga games for Atletico on the back of a successful World Cup finals that saw him hit the back of the net five times and be named player of the tournament.

Forlan is not dwelling on his lean spell as he is confident the goals will come again sooner rather than later.

“Now the chances are not going in, but soon they will,” he told AS.

“You need to continue trying and I’m determined to do that.

“You don’t forget how to score goals and I’m not thinking day in day out that I haven’t scored.

“The goals will soon arrive. You need to be calm and nothing else.

“In the game against Madrid I had two or three chances, and the other day against Almeria the same thing happened.

“I feel bad for having lost the derby, but on a personal level I feel fine.”
