Togo’s football federation says former coach Tchanile Bana was responsible for taking a fake national team to a friendly against Bahrain, and has banned him for three years.

In a statement on Monday, the federation said “the organization, preparation and supervision of the match were planned by Tchanile Bana.”

The team made up of unidentified players lost 3-0 in the September 7 friendly.

Bana had already been suspended for two years for organising a match in Egypt in July without the knowledge of Togo’s sports authorities.

A member of the disciplinary commission investigating the affair said more officials would also face sanctions.

Antoine Folly said “full light must be thrown on the Bahrain affair in order to unmask and impose sanctions on his (Bana’s) accomplices.”
