Former Italy coach Ferruccio Valcareggihas died at the age of 86.

Valcareggi was in charge when Italy won the European Championship in Rome in 1968 and two years later led them to the final of the World Cup.

The Italians were crushed 4-1 by a Pele-inspired Brazilian side in the final.

Four years later in West Germany Valcareggi’s team failed to make it beyond the group stage and he was replaced by Enzo Bearzot who was to lead Italy to success at the 1982 finals.

Valcareggi played for Bologna and Fiorentina and he also coached the Florence club.
