Robbie Fowler is poised to join Manchester City, less than a week after his original move to Maine Road collapsed.

Leeds manager Terry Venables admitted that he expected a new deal will be completed within the next 48 hours.

Venables said: ‘It looks like the clubs have agreed a fee and I think there will be some sort of decision from Robbie on Wednesday.

‘The ball is back in his court. There must be a change in his mind to now be thinking about it, whereas before he didn’t want to go. He will decide whether it’s yes or no.’

‘As much as I don’t want Robbie to go, I realise someone has to go at this particular moment.’

‘I’m assured that if the Robbie Fowler deal goes through, there will be no other players leaving,’ he added.

‘As far as I know, Newcastle have not bid for Jonathan Woodgate though. I keep reading there has been a bid but I’m assured by the chairman that there hasn’t been one.’

Fowler’s move to Maine Road broke down last week when he objected to a pay-as-you-play contract.
