Genoa have confirmed the appointment of Davide Ballardini as their new manager following the dismissal of Gian Piero Gasperini.
Genoa have endured a difficult start to the season and Gasperini was sacked earlier on Monday following Sunday’s 1-0 defeat to Palermo which left the club langushing in 14th place in Serie A.
Owner Enrico Preziosi decided a change was required and placed his faith in former Lazio boss Ballardini, who has signed a deal until June.
Ballardini was sacked by Claudio Lotito, the owner of current league leaders Lazio, when they were struggling near the bottom last season and has previously managed Cagliari and Maurizio Zamparini’s Palermo.
“He’s the right person, I like him a lot, maybe because he has already had to put up with difficult presidents like Lotito and Zamparini,” Preziosi said.
“I don’t need a phenomenon at the moment, just something simple.”
