The German Football Association (DFB) say their national team will be England’s first opponents at the new Wembley Stadium on 22 August, 2007.

Germany coach Joachim Low let slip last week the game was due to go ahead, even though the Football Association had not made an official announcement.

The DFB have now confirmed that the game will take place with a 19:30 BST kick off.

The last game at the old Wembley was England’s 1-0 defeat to Germany in a World Cup qualifier in October 2000.

The new stadium is set to be completed by mid-2007 after several technical setbacks and budgetary problems.

The FA have so far been unable to confirm the game will definitely take place.
