The German Football Association (DFB) have joined their English counterparts in launching an inquiry into the alleged racist abuse directed at England players in Tuesday’s Under-21 international between the two countries.

Both Anton Ferdinand and Micah Richards have reported to The FA that they were racially abused by German players during the 2-0 win in the Under-21 European Championship play-off in Leverkusen.

The FA have already launched an investigation and are considering reporting the matter to Uefa, and now the DFB have confirmed that they too are to look into the allegations.

“We are taking the accusations very seriously and are investigating their veracity,” DFB spokesman Harald Stenger said.

“The first inquiry was made with captain Kiessling but yielded no results and now the Under-21 coach Dieter Eilts is contacting all the players individually.

“It might take hours or it could longer until he has reached them all.”
