Andriy Shevchenko still has a big role to play at Chelsea, insists coach Avram Grant.

The Ukraine striker came off the bench during the 1-0 victory against Bolton at the Reebok Stadiumbut he never looked like adding to the one goal he has scored in this campaign.

Grant, however, believes the forward will come good over the course of teh coming season.

He said: “We have a long season and he is trying hard. He is a great player.

“I am sure he will be good for Chelsea. In this game we needed other players.

“They pay me to be in charge. I have to be in charge and take the decision for the present and the future. I want to take the team forward.”

Chelsea’s win completed a good week for Grant as it followed a Champions League success against Valencia in Spain.

“I do not want to live in football without pressure,” continued Grant.

“When you are at a big club you always have pressure if you want to achieve the best.

“There is extra pressure if you want to change the way Chelsea play.

“It is a big responsibility but I like it. I like to put pressure on myself.

“The name of the game is pressure. It is not a game for weakness.”
