Turkey coach Senol Gunes attempted remain philosophical after his team’s World Cup semi-final defeat against Brazil, saying his players had achieved a great deal despite their exit.

“We can to the World Cup to take part in the festival and make an impact and I think we have achieved that goal” he said.

Turkey were undone by one piece of Ronaldo magic and although they pressed in search of an equaliser their good approach play was let down by some poor finishing. Gunes added that he was proud of his players but that his team had made some crucial errors during the match.

“We made fewer mistakes this time than in the first game against Brazil, but we still made mistakes going forward when we lost possession” he said.

“I am sorry that we could not give the Turkish people more happiness today” he added.

Striker Ilhan Mansiz had several good opportunities during the match and Gunes praised the contribution of his team-mates, particularly goalkeeper Rustu.

“Our morale was never broken. Rustu gave confidence to the whole of the defence and I think he was one of the best players on the field tonight” he said.

‘We missed a few chances and we couldn’t score but I wish Brazil all the best” he added.

Gunes now tips Brazil to go on and lift the World Cup for a record fifth time.

“Brazil are a good side with many talented players. The final against Germany will be relatively easy for them” he said.
