Manchester United kick off their title defence against new boys Birmingham City – but the Reds haven’t won any of their last 2 opening games.

Fulham defender Brede Hangeland insists he is ignoring renewed speculation linking him with a move to Arsenal.

The Norway international has been a reported target for the Gunners for much of the summer, after he played an integral role in helping Fulham clinch a seventh place finish in the Premier League last season.

Hangeland admits that he is aware of the speculation, but claims it is just paper talk.

“At the moment it is just something written in the newspapers and I’m not too worried about that,” he told Sky Sports News.

He fully expects to be a Fulham player when the new season gets underway this weekend, with the Cottagers making it clear that they are unwilling to sell.

“There is nothing to suggest otherwise for me, so I am preparing for the game with Portsmouth on Saturday,” he added.

He said he would not even consider the prospect of a transfer until a formal approach is made.

“That is something I will answer if that happens, so we will see,” he said.

“At the moment I play for Fulham and I am very happy about that.”
