Bayern Munich midfielder Owen Hargreaves has been told that he will not play again this year, although the England mifielder has not ruled out a move away from the Bundesliga club in the January transfer window.

Hargreaves, who suffered a broken left fibula in September, had hoped to be back in action within six weeks but his layoff looks set to keep him on the sidelines until January.

“It’s better if I don’t play again in 2006,” Hargreaves told Thursday’s Kicker magazine. “The first half of the season is now over.”

Manchester United attempted to sign Hargreaves after the World Cup and the 25-year-old has not ruled out making a move to England in january.

“A thousand things happen in the winter,” he said, somewhat crypictally. “In life there are always surprises.”
