The appointment of Guus Hiddink as coach of PSV Eindhoven looks to have persuaded Mark van Bommel and Kevin Hofland to stay at the club.

“His arrival is good for the club,” Hofland, a traget for Manchester United and Arsenal, said. “We have a young squad who will look up to him. A fresh face is also good for us.”

Van Bommel, another too be linked with Arsenal. said: “Hiddink has proved in the past that he’s a good coach, so it looks to me to be a good choice.”

The Holland midfielder told the newspaper De Telegraaf: “Furthermore, I believe that he is well suited for this squad.”

Hiddink, who led South Korea to the World Cup semi-finals, succeeds Erik Gerets who was sacked at the end of last season.

It will be Hiddink’s second spell in charge of PSV. He first held the post from 1987 to 1990, and oversaw the club’s greatest ever triumph, the 1988 European Cup success.
