Thomas Hitzlsperger is desperate to play for Germany when they host the next World Cup.

The Aston Villa midfielder is desperate to be part of Jurgen Klinsmann’s squad for the finals.

“I know my manager David O’Leary spoke to Jurgen and said I should be in his squad – and I am for the friendly against Cameroon on Wednesday,” said the 22-year-old.

“I know he was in England this weekend to watch Arsenal v Tottenham and Chelsea v Fulham. I just hope he stayed long enough to watch Match of the Day.

“If he has not seen my goal I shall make sure he does when I join up with the Germany squad by taking the tape with me.

“I have not been too happy in the last few weeks because I have not played as many games as I’d like and I’ve told the manager that.

“Hopefully, I have shown him in this game I deserve a starting place.

“As a German, I am looking towards the World Cup of 2006. We are the hosts and I want to be involved.”
