Lyon coach Gerard Houllier has declared his team the French champions following their 2-1 win over Nice.

Lyon lie 14 points ahead of second-placed team Bordeaux with just five games remaining, and a draw against PSG will guarantee them the title next weekend.

“We can now admit that we have won the fifth title,” he told L’Est Republicain.

“Even if we have to take a point at Paris next weekend, we will do it.

“Winning the championship was our main objective, in order to qualify for our seventh straight Champions League.

“We have worked hard to obtain it, and played a very interesting game in several competitions.

“The club wants to win the French Cup, in order to forget our sad elimination in the Champions League.”
