Middlesbrough manager Gareth Southgate has confirmed that Stoke City are in talks to sign Robert Huth and Tuncay for a combined fee of around £11m.

Germany defender Huth and Turkey forward Tuncay are discussing personal terms and undergoing medicals at City.

“The two clubs have agreed a fee and Robert is having talks with Stoke at the moment,” said Southgate.

On the Tuncay deal, he added: “Again, we have agreed a fee with Stoke City and the player is in talks with them.”

Stoke are keen to strengthen their squad before the transfer deadline, with midfielder Dean Whitehead from Sunderland their only major signing during the summer.

“Robert came over here early in his career and did well at Chelsea and Middlesbrough,” Stoke assistant manager Peter Reid told BBC Radio Stoke.

“We know all about him, he has plenty of experience in the Premier League.”

Stoke hope to complete the deals for Huth and Tuncay in time for both players to be involved in the Premier League game against Sunderland at the Britannia Stadium on Saturday.
