Borussia Dortmund will be without German World Cup defender Cristoph Metzelder for tomorrow’s group A Champions League visit to Auxerre.

Metzelder strained a thigh muscle in Saturday’s 2-1 defeat by Bayern Munich in the top-of-the-table Bundesliga clash. He will be replaced against Auxerre, ironically, by Frenchman Ahmed Reda Madouni.

Also absent will be fellowinjury victims Evanilson, Otto Addo and Juan Fernandez. Dortmund will be hoping to halt a disappointing run of two defeats since they also went down 3-0 to Fribourg in the German cup last week.

Defensive midfielder Christian Worns said: “This is a test of character for us. The fact that we are already qualified means nothing. For the sake of morale and team spirit we have to get back on the winning track.”
