David Beckham, John Terry and Ashley Cole all missed England’s final training session before the team departed for their German World Cup base in Baden-Baden.

With Gary Neville and Wayne Rooney still missing from full training on Monday, only 18 of Sven Goran Eriksson’s 23-man party were able to take part in the session.

England’s management was quick to play down concerns over the trio.

“John Terry, Ashley Cole and David Beckham, who had a kick on his right ankle on Saturday, did not train,” said the Football Association’s director of communications, Adrian Bevington

“This was purely precautionary with all three players.

“Sven fully expects all three to be training this week and available for Saturday’s opener against Paraguay.

“Gary Neville and Wayne Rooney were working with the physios during the session.

“Gary is expected to train tomorrow [Tuesday] while Wayne will continue with the rehabilitation of his foot with England’s medical team.”
