Internazionale have confirmed Jose Mourinho as their new manager following the departure last week of previous incumbent Roberto Mancini.

The Portuguese coach emerged as the clear favourite to succeed Mancini after he was sacked by the club last week.

A statement on Inter’s website said: “Internazionale announce the arrival of Jose Mourinho.

“The Portuguese coach has signed a three-year contract and will work alongside Rui Farias, Silvino and Andrei Villas Boas.

“The assistant coach will be Giuseppe Baresi.”

The club added: “Thanking Roberto Mancini and his staff for the success obtained in four seasons as the leader of the team, all of Internazionale has the great pleasure to welcome Jose Mourinho and his coaches.”

Mourinho has not worked being sacked by Chelsea last September following a fallout with owner Roman Abramovich and a slow start to the Premier League season.

The 45-year-old enjoyed a successful three-year spell in English football, helping Chelsea to win the Premier League and League Cup twice, the FA Cup and the Community Shield. His previous spell at Porto brought him successive Portuguese league titles as well as success in the UEFA Cup and the UEFA Champions League.

Mourinho has signed a three-year deal with the Serie A champions, who claimed a third successive Scudetto last season.
