Inter ended their 16-year domestic trophy drought when they overcame Roma on Wednesday to win the Italian Cup.

Inter owner Massimo Moratti believes the club can now build on their achievement and look to challenge for the scudetto last won by the ‘Nerazzurri’ in 1989.

“It is not a ‘scudetto’ but the Cup win is important for us psychologically,” said Moratti.

“It should give faith to everyone and it is a step forward. We are celebrating more than a Cup win, it is a break with our negative run.”

Mancini is the ninth coach at Inter during Moratti’s 10-year reign reign at the club.

“He is a specialist in the Italian Cup, I hope he becomes a specialist in collecting league titles as well,” said Moratti.

Inter finished third in Serie A last season, and Moratti believes Inter have closed the gap on the leading duo Milan aand Juventus.

“The whole side is staying put,” he said.

“There isn’t much needed to complete the squad, a few touches done well will be enough.”
