Former Lazio striker Goran Pandev has signed for Inter, according to the player’s agent.

Pandev was available on a free transfer after Lazio were ordered to release him from his contract, and agent Leonardo Corsi has revealed a deal with Inter is set to be formalised on Monday.

“Pandev has just signed,” he told Tuttomercatoweb. “Goran is clearly very happy. The contract will be sent to the league in the coming hours.”

The Macedonia international began his Serie A career with Inter in 2001 but, after failing to make an appearance for the club, he joined Lazio in 2004.

However, he was labelled a “rebel” by club president Claudio Lotito after handing in a transfer request in the summer and had not been allowed to train with the first-team squad, leading the Lega Calcio to rule that the club had to release him from his deal.

Jose Mourinho is a long-term admirer of Pandev and the player recently admitted that the Inter coach’s support had made him determined to join the Serie A champions.

“Do you really want me to say that I want Inter? Well, I want Inter,” he told La Gazzetta dello Sport last week. “I strongly want them. Is that okay?

“There are plenty of valid reasons behind this. The main one is that they tried to sign me up until three days before the transfer window deadline last August. And I can’t forget the comments of Mourinho last winter. He said that one like me should never be sold.”
