Solid if unsepctatular again for Inter, who stay top of Serie A, courtesy of a 2-0 win over Como.

Christian Vieri and Alvaro Recoba, two members of Hector Cuper’s much-vaunted three-man strike force, were on target for Inter as they cruised to a 2-0 win over struggling Como.

Milan who beat Reggina 2-0 at the San Siro remain second, three points adrift of their arch-rivals. Reggina’s Jorge Vargas was sent-off for a professional foul that cost his side a penalty kick, which was missed by Rivaldo, but Filippo Inzaghi was on hand to fire in the rebound for his seventh league goal of the season and his 100th in Serie A. Rivaldo made amends when he extended Milan’s lead midway through the second-hallf.

Marcello Lippi decided to rest Alessandro Del Piero for the visit to Modena but with the reigning champions struggling to make the breakthrough the Juve coach brought on his talismanic striker and was duly rewarded with the only goal of the game on 75 minutes.

The win keeps Juventus in third, hust a point ahead of resurgent Lazio, who overcame Empoli 2-1 thanks to Dejan Stankovic grabbing the winner.

Lazio’s local rivals Roma continue to drop off the pace and after a 2-2 draw with Perugia, their Scudetto prospects already look bleak. The point leaves Fabio Capello’s side 7 points behind leaders Inter. It could have been much worse for Roma, who at one point were reduced to ten men when Antonioli was sent-off and trailed 2-0 at half-time. However, Panucci reduced the deficit before skipper Totti completed a remarkable comeback.

Elsewhere, Chievo continued their recent good run with a 1-0 win over Parma, the winner coming from Sergio Pellissier who scored three minutes into injury time. The victory takes the Verona-based club into sixth place in the table.
