Italian referee Gianluca Paparesta has been handed an eight-month ban forhis part in the high-profile Italian match fixing scandal.

The official was already serving a three month ban imposed by the sporting tribunal, but the Italian Referees’ Association (AIA) have imposed their own punishment which means he he will not officiate in Italian football for the whole of the coming season.

Paparesta was cited for to his relationship with Milan official Leonardo Meani, and for the fact that he failed to report being given a dressing down by former Juventus general manager Luciano Moggi following a game with Reggina.

The referee’s ban will begin on October 20 and run until June 19, 2007.
